"Who Am I?"

An Accelerator for Your Aha! Life

Overview

“I AM. Two of the most powerful words; for what you put after them shapes your reality.” – Bevan Lee

This month, I decided to stay longer on the journey to knowing the Self with this month’s Accelerator: “Who Am I?” I believe it has the potential to take you to the core of who you are, known as your True Self, your essence, your Higher Self, or your soul.

Underneath all the names listed here and others, is a common conception of the True Self as the pure essence or spirit within every person. The True Self is the voice within acting as our guide and truth teller, encourager, and sage. It is always with us.

When you feel lost, the True Self knows the way “home.”

When the outside world tries to tell you, you’re not enough, the True Self is there to remind you that you are more than enough.

When you are suspended by indecision, listen for the voice of your True Self. It knows the answer.

When the ego’s grip leads you to seek validation from the outside, the True Self reminds you that your self-worth is intrinsic, immeasurable, and immutable.

This question is one to answer.

Instructions

The “Who Am I?” Accelerator is a self-inquiry exercise meant to help you identify the various identities that express who you are and how you show up in the world.

  1. In the first part of the exercise, you will identify your conscious self: your personal, social, cultural, and role identities. These constructed identities have been forming over your entire lifetime. (~ 10 minutes)
  2. In the second part of the exercise, you will go within to inquire into the Self. This Self is not conscious to a lot of people. It lies beneath the surface and is often buried beneath layers of dogma, expectations and judgments from others, hurts, and even self-incrimination. The only requirements are to get quiet; set aside time (~15 minutes); and open your heart. Click on the Accelerator to follow the instructions.
  3. When you finish the exercise, write down all that came up for you. Reflect or meditate on it in the coming days or weeks. Notice how your I AM statements are being expressed in your life.
